DTW Architects completed a full renovation of this 23,000-square-foot historic building, located in a prominent downtown setting, in compliance with federal historic preservation guidelines. The firm also managed the Historic Preservation Certification process. The three-story structure now serves as the headquarters for the Center for Responsible Lending, a nonprofit organization advocating for financial reform in the lending industry.
The first-floor lobby, distinguished by its historic stamped metal ceiling, provides meeting space for the client and the community. A new atrium — created by installing a large skylight over a monumental stair — floods the building’s interior with natural light, brightening adjacent offices on all levels. The stair also enhances connectivity, fostering communication among staff across floors. The renovation further included comprehensive mechanical, plumbing, and electrical upgrades.
