DTW Architects collaborated with the grocery tenant to design the interior of this 10,000-square-foot retail building. Working within a tight budget, the tenant needed all the essential spaces and equipment of a full-scale grocery — including offices, a kitchen, restrooms, and coolers — but in a more compact footprint. DTW partnered with a supplier to strategically lay out the right number of fixtures, ensuring efficient use of space while avoiding interference from exposed steel columns. To meet the tenant’s request for a bright, welcoming atmosphere, the design incorporates 24 Solatube skylights that flood the high-ceilinged open space with natural light.
The grocery’s exterior blends metal siding and brick to convey an urban character, while the adjacent green gathering space offers a natural counterpoint with mature trees and lush plantings.
