Monument of Faith
Location: Durham, NC
DTW Architects designed this church sanctuary for an inner-city congregation that wanted to stay in its neighborhood rather than relocate. However, the site was tight, and so was the budget. Given these constraints, DTW developed a master plan in which a new sanctuary would be constructed first, with a fellowship hall and education wing to be phased in at a later time. (There were existing buildings that could be used until these later phases were built.) This modern sanctuary, which is a metal building, has a light-filled lobby with stained glass window; there is another similarly-sized stained glass window in the sanctuary. The exterior facing the major street and public entries is brick and stucco, and the rear and side elevations where future phases will be added on is metal siding.
