Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility
Location: Wake County, NC
Date: 2008
DTW Architects designed this new training facility addition by placing it in front of the existing administration building, thus creating a new public image at the main entry to the facility. This addition accommodates groups up to 150 in both large and small training configurations, and its placement also creates a small plaza with a water feature between the buildings.
The client was especially interested in showcasing water-saving strategies to its constituents, and reuse water from the plant is used for toilet flushing and make-up water to the HVAC chiller. This project achieved LEED silver certification from the USGBC, and was the first LEED certified building for the City of Raleigh. In 2015 DTW returned to the Neuse River Waste Water Treatment Plant to renovate the existing laboratory facility. This work included 11,000 square feet of new laboratory space and 9,000 square feet of new office space.
