DTW Architects developed this innovative design when North Carolina schools were transitioning from junior high schools to middle schools; it was the first to create the “grade house” concept. A light-filled circulation corridor, the school’s main artery, links its houses and commons areas. Totaling 130,000 SF, components include academic and other classrooms, media center, performing and visual arts, technology labs, administration and a gymnasium.

Site enhancements include parent and bus drop-offs, parking, athletic fields, building courtyards, stormwater improvements and landscaping.
