DTW Architects designed this 42,000 SF facility, home of Durham County General Services administrative and service sections, to take advantage of the sloping site. This design created a public image on the main entry side (administrative building: 17,000 SF) and tucked away support services on the lower level at the rear (25,000 SF). The design incorporates natural light in all of the administrative areas by use of skylights running along the major corridors. Most importantly, the design features public art – colorful glazed glass panels – placed in the main artery and in the two large conference rooms. In addition to the offices and services bays, the project includes a 40-acre operations service yard, training rooms and lockers.
