DTW Architects designed this project to address several existing issues: improve circulation and functionality, upgrade this dated school, and enhance the entry sequence. These issues were addressed through a combination of multiple additions (totaling 4,000 SF) and significant renovations (128,000 SF). The main addition, a glass-box lobby, provides a distinct entry into the campus, and its light-filled space sets off this new gathering space with display areas. Classroom renovations focused on creating academic teams with new science labs for each grade level. Renovations also included new thermally efficient windows, which along with a recently installed new roof, create an energy efficient building envelope.

Energy efficient lighting and mechanical systems were also part of the project, as well as plumbing upgrades and all new fixtures, new entry canopies, new track surface, stormwater improvements and landscaping. Additions and renovations occurred in seven construction phases over a two year period, all while the 800-student school remained in operation.
