DTW Architects designed this 24,000 SF expansion and complete renovation (74,000 SF) project to address several issues: enclose exterior corridors for safety and temperature control, re-consolidate grade levels, and distribute resource rooms throughout the building. Exterior covered walkways were enclosed with glass, and for way-finding, different areas of the building were identified with coordinated colors – window glazing, paint and floor tiles. Systems were replaced or upgraded (mechanical, electrical, I.T., plumbing), and new casework and finishes installed. In addition, the building received a new sprinkler system and new roofs. Courtyard, playground and landscaping upgrades were also part of the project.
The renovations occurred in five phases over an 18-month period and all students remained on campus throughout the construction.
