Location

DTW Architects rejoined this project which saw an earlier master plan, originally completely in 2005. This new 2019 iteration included an Innovation Center which would serve both the Lower and Middle Schools. The facility will house the performing arts, dance, music, drama, and innovation education programs. The new site was situated between the Lower and Middle Schools in order to facilitate use by both schools. The entirety of the Master Plan was done in collaboration with Duke School staff, as well as parents and students.

The 12,000 sq. ft. facility will include a 300 seat flexible theater, Makers Lab with outside courtyard, Music Band Room, Multipurpose classrooms, as well as entry/lobby/support space.

The earlier 2005 Master Plan addressed both current and long-range needs of the campus. It included moving the lower school (Pre-K to Grade 3), previously located miles away on another site, onto the upper school (Grades 4-8) campus. The Plan also included the renovation of extant buildings and the placement of six entirely new buildings which would accommodate different age groups in separate areas. Vehicular circulation was designed based on the school’s drop-off and pick-up requirements.
